The Lockheed U-2 , nicknamed " Dragon Lady ", is an American single-jet engine , ultra-high altitude reconnaissance aircraft operated by the United States Air Force (USAF) and previously flown by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). It provides day and night, high-altitude (70,000 feet; 21,336 m), all-weather intelligence gathering . [1] The U-2 has also been used for electronic sensor research, satellite calibration, and communications purposes.

Early versions of the U-2 were involved in several events through the Cold War , being flown over the Soviet Union , China , Vietnam , and Cuba . In 1960, Gary Powers was shot down in a CIA U-2A over the Soviet Union by a surface-to-air missile. Another U-2, piloted by Major Rudolf Anderson , Jr., was lost in a similar fashion during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

The U-2 is one of a handful of aircraft types to have served the USAF for over 50 years. The newest models (TR-1, U-2R, U-2S) entered service in the 1980s. The current model, the U-2S, received its most recent technical upgrade in 2012. They have taken part in post-Cold War conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq , and supported several multinational NATO operations.

Animation is the process of making the illusion of motion and the illusion of change [Note 1] by means of the rapid display of a sequence of images that minimally differ from each other. The illusion—as in motion pictures in general—is thought to rely on the phi phenomenon . Animators are artists who specialize in the creation of animation. Animation can be recorded with either analogue media, a flip book , motion picture film , video tape, digital media , including formats with animated GIF , Flash animation , and digital video. To display animation, a digital camera , computer, or projector are used along with new technologies that are produced.

Animation creation methods include the traditional animation creation method and those involving stop motion animation of two and three-dimensional objects, paper cutouts , puppets and clay figures . Images are displayed in a rapid succession, usually 24, 25, 30, or 60 frames per second. Computer animation processes generating animated images with the general term computer-generated imagery (CGI). 3D animation uses computer graphics, while 2D animation is used for stylistic, low bandwidth and faster real-time renderings.

Early examples of attempts to capture the phenomenon of motion into a still drawing can be found in paleolithic cave paintings , where animals are often depicted with multiple legs in superimposed positions, clearly attempting to convey the perception of motion. [1]
